          ATTENTION !!!

The Beltane ritual has had to be cancelled - see the Open rituals page for more detail -

The "Pagan Lion" is the adopted name of the Southend Moot. The Pagan Lion is a Pagan Federation (PF - follow link to the PF Homepage) affiliated Moot that is held twice a month. The Pagan Lion normally meets in the Cricketers Inn in Southend on Sea (228, London Road, Westcliff-on-sea, Essex - follow link for a map of how to get there).
A Moot is defined variously as a meeting, an ancient English court, a debate or discussion. The term comes from Anglo Saxon, Icelandic and Old English roots. The word suits the purpose of the gathering, so Pagan groups tend to use it! - "let's face it, Southend Pagan Court would conjure up images that would be less than honest" :-)
In case you wondered about me, well - I'm Keith! A member of the Pagan Lion, and the Pagan Federation Regional Coordinator for this Region of the East Anglia district  (I've also got a loud voice & get "stuck with" calling the raffle upon occasion !), I've put these WebPages together to advertise the events that the "Pagan Lion" organises because I get asked about the events so regularly that this will (I hope) make my life a little easier !!!

As I said, The "Pagan Lion" holds regular Moots on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month. The "Pagan Lion" also holds Open Rituals to celebrate the major Pagan festivals - Please check the above for other events, rituals & notices - covering areas other than Southend on Sea.

  • The "2nd Tuesday Moot" is an informal get together of like minded people to have a drink and a chat about whatever takes their fancy. There's normally no theme and there's no charge to get in . The get together is in the bar of the Cricketers at 8.00 and we're not to difficult to find, normally there's a table reserved for the Pagan Lion - ask at the bar, they normally know what's going on.
  • The "4th Tuesday Moot" is an organised event with a theme and normally a speaker. It's held in the function  room of the Cricketers (AKA Club Riga). Ask at the Bar & they'll tell you how to get in. It's at 7.30 for an 8.00 "ish" start and it'll normally cost you £2 to get in (can be a bit more if it's a special speaker). Pagan Lion members get in for free or for half price if it's a special speaker. The evenings talk is normally followed by the "legendary" Southend Moot raffle !
If you want any more details, feel free to drop me an email & if I can't help I'll put you in touch with the organisers. Also as the Regional Coordinator for the Pagan Federation, I'm here to help if you are experiencing problems with Paganism in the local area!  I'll do what I can!! If you've heard ANY worrying or nasty rumours or gossip or news about the local Pagan scene/community then let me know & I'll give you the 100% truth to the best of my knowledge or I'll find it out for you. Bitchcraft can spiral out of control - let's keep Bitchcraft out of Southend!!!
